چکیده

Commercial daylighting systems can generate significant savings in electricity consumption, yet they are poorly received in the commercial or office building sector. Barriers inhibiting widespread adoption of these daylighting systems include occupant dissatisfaction, high cost (especially in the case of retrofits), and difficulty estimating target illuminances. In order to overcome some of these barriers, an intelligent control framework is developed, and a new MEMS-based (micro-electrical mechanical systems) wireless sensing and actuating technology called ‘Smart Dust motes’ is explored. Through intelligent control, conflicting occupant preferences and perceptions can be balanced, demandresponsiveness can be implemented, and sensed values of illuminance can be validated and fused. Validation refers to the process of determining the fidelity of sensed information. Validated readings from physically or functionally redundant sensors are aggregated with fusion algorithms. Smart Dust motes afford sensing directly at the worksurface, as well as individual control of ballasts sharing a common switch. In this paper a framework for intelligent daylighting control with Smart Dust motes is presented. Specifically, calibration of mote sensors, development of the intelligent control model, and fusion and validation algorithm assessment are detailed.

Intelligent Lighting Control using Wireless Sensor Networks for Media Production

We present the design and implementation of a unique sensing and actuation application -the Illuminator: a sensor network-based intelligent light control system for entertainment and media production. Unlike most sensor network applications, which focus on sensing alone, a distinctive aspect of the Illuminator is that it closes the loop from light sensing to lighting control. We describe the Il...
